November's Monthly Mini

 November has come
and pretty much gone.
I have though, been able to spend
a little time in my sewing room.
This month's mini
was a free download earlier in the fall
 and is now available
 as a $5 digital download.

Autumn Along Coal Creek
21" x 28"

I took Pam's pattern
and added more 6"  blocks.
I had several of her fabrics,
Cheddar and Coal
and added a few others, of course.

The border is a very old Thimbleberries print, but
was the perfect choice.
You never know when one of those
oldies still works.
I added a flange binding which
made the binding process go a little faster.

Besides, it added a spark of cheddar
at the end.
****

I also finished a couple of
X-stitch projects.

Boo and Whoo

Designed by Misty Pursel
Of Luminous Fiber Arts.

I mounted each piece on a
glossy black wooden block.
I used some older Nancy Halverson
orange fabric and
a bit of black rick rack.
Now they'll be ready for next October.
****
This next one was a free design

"Thankful" is being modeled by
Turkey Jack, one of
my favorite Thanksgiving decorations.

He was made years ago and
joins us every year.

****
I discovered, as I was
selecting quilts for my
November fence display, that
 this month theme was
the color,
we lovingly refer to,
as Cheddar.

This month's lineup is one of my favorites.

A November Mini Quilt Challenge

A challenge was made
by the Rogue Quilter, Janet.
Take a small baggie of fabric
And make a mini quilt with it.

My baggie from Janet
was filled with browns and with pinks.
This should be fun
said Kyle with a wink.

Pinks

 Browns

A little more fabric can be included
 if you must.
The 4 B's can be added
Now don't make a fuss.

( Background, Borders, Binding, Backing)

The wheels began turning.
and it didn't take long.
The stars began appearing
like a heavenly throng.

Hand piecing 8 pointed stars

3 inch finished stars

Using just the small bits
each star was unique.
I like how they looked
Oh, so chic.

Connecting them all
with a sweet background
Was easy to do
with this fabulous brown.

Next were the borders
that took some planning to attach.
Just so the corners
could be an excellent  match.

With simple machine quilting,
 binding and an interesting backing
The quilt came together
and wasn't too nerve wracking.

Using Janet's tiny scrap pieces
my mini was now complete.
The challenge was a challenge
but the result were oh, so sweet.

Thank you, Janet for the
challenge you made.
Check out Wendy's blog post
for a mini parade.

Until Next Time-

November Happenings

The past few weeks
have been very busy,
but a "fun" busy.
The best kind.
***
Sometimes there's important
sewing that needs to be done
and it definitely,
takes precedence.

When second graders learn about
early Fort Collin pioneer history
 they need the appropriate costume.

"Let it snow, let it snow..."

Yes, we had some snow.
I measured 18" before
it finally stopped.

I'm thankful we
had some good helpers to shovel.

Last Saturday started off
like most Saturdays although
it was my twin daughter's 35th birthdays
Later, when the doorbell rang,
I had a totally awesome surprise.
My Florida daughter had secretly flown to Colorado
to celebrate her birthday with
her twin sister here in Fort Collins.

Happy Birthday #1

to

Happy Birthday, now.

****

I finished my November small quilt,
obviously just before it snowed!
"Cinnamon Toast"
40" x 40"

The design was inspired by one
of Jo Morton's patterns.

I love working with
these typical November colors
and these small hst's.

Each month, I've made my small quilts
to fit on my coffee table and be
part of my seasonal decor.

Feathers are one of my favorite
quilt designs and I try to practice them
whenever I can.

Wendy,  the Constant Quilter, used a backing
that looked like turkey feathers.
for her November quilt.

  I found

an old Nancy Halverson fabric in my stash,
and I'm thankful it's now gone!!

It's time to flip another
calendar page, but before you do,
check out Wendy's blog to see
what others have been stitching.

November Small Quilt- Another One Done

With the Thanksgiving holiday over,

it's time to get back to a "normal" routine.
Well, at least for a couple days.

My Florida daughter and son-in-law are coming

to celebrate Christmas, birthdays,
and just being together.
They come and freeze, these two born and raised Colorado kids,
but it's wonderful to have them here.

So it's time to share my November small quilt,
which is part of the monthly challenge
coordinated by Wendy, the Constant Quilter.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice
22" x 36"

This little quilt had it's beginning back in January, 2017.
It's when I started Primitive Gathering's Triangle Gatherings.

I made lots of  sets of triangle units,

even put together a few blocks, but

then staled out.
That ever happened to you?!
Of course it has!

Well, those little piles have stayed
together for almost 2 years.
Time to use 'em
move 'em, or loose 'em.

One of my favorite combos
is indigo blue with cheddar orange.
I had this fabulous cheddar strip and
it was telling me to use those blocks
in this simple pattern from
Jo Morton's book, Jo's Little Favorites III.

Most of the sewing was already done.
So it went together easily.

But look what I discovered when I set the
quilt up for its photo shoot.

Oh, well.
Such is life.

Don't sweat the small stuff.
You could be Humpty Dumpty.

I kept that fabulous color scheme going
on the back and

stretched a favorite remnant to make it work.

Thanks again, Wendy for
all this fun!
One more month and then another year?
Until Next Time-
Kyle

Election History

Quilts can be be made for any reason,
to celebrate any occasion,
to commemorate any event.
 On the eve of this
Presidential Election,
this is a quilt that I made
to commemorate and remember
 the presidential election in 2000.
Our Next President is...?
 40" x 54"

We all watched history unfolding
that evening as different reports
came and went through the media.

Was our next 43rd  president,

Republican George W. Bush or
 Democrate Al Gore?

Over the course of time,
 we all learned more about
recounts,
butterfly baloots,
dimpled ballots,
absentee ballots

and just how important
a state's electoral votes were.

We watched as our country
worked through various conflicts and procedcures
in a peaceful way to determine the
outcome of that election.

With another close election
on our doorstep,
take the time to vote.
Your vote does matter.
