A Little Road Trip for a Photo Shoot

Running Man and I hit the road
last week to visit our favorite get away place.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

There's no perfect way to describe Santa Fe.

History, culture, art,

all packed with flavor

A walk up Canyon Road combines
art, adobe architecture and creativity.

Take a scenic drive on the Turquoise Trail linking
Santa Fe and Albuquerque.  Stop and do a little shopping
at the Henderson Trading Post

 Happy 48th Wedding Anniversary

I brought along my Star Upon Star quilt
hoping to find a few fun places to do a photo shoot.

I received a lot of compliments
from people walking by as I attempted
to take a few pic.
That made me smile.
Everyone is an artist in Santa Fe!

I hope as the summer months
roll along, you get to
reconnect with the joy and healing vibes
of exploring new and favorite places.

Safe travels.
Until Next Time-
Kyle

Using a Little Brain Power

Trying to be efficient with your time

is one way to accomplish more than you
might have anticipated.
I have spent the last couple weeks trying to do just that.
Have I been successful?
Well, I'm further ahead than I was, so
I guess, that would say I was making progress.

You might remember that I started working
on these Stars Upon Star blocks  about 2 years ago.

The blocks are hand pieced and all 15 stars are done, along
with half stars and quarter stars.

I staled out when it came to the pieced sashing.

This photo is Aline Joulin's quilt, Ogeechee, which I first saw
at Houston's International Quilt Festival in 2018.

Why haven't I been able to move forward?
Because I had to figure out the math to make these units!

Finally, with some brain power,
I cut and sewed a practice piece and
much to my surprise, it seems to fit.

So, in order to be as efficient as I could be
and make some progress,
I began cutting and organizing strips into sets of 5 to be machine pieced
into sashing units.

It took several days to create 35 different combinations
and then to begin sewing them together.

I'm actually still sewing strips and
then when those are finally done,
I'll sub cut 1.5" pieces.

These units are sewn into a staggered pattern to make the
sashing design.

Even though it gets a bit boring and repetitive to do
the steps required for the 35 pieces all at the same time,
I find it an efficient approach for me.
I do try and pace myself so, that I don't
go too crazy or crazier than I already am.

We'll see how it all works out.
Fingers crossed.

Until Next Time-
Kyle

A Little of This and a Little of That

Last week had it's
up and downs.

The weather went from
one extreme to another.
One day it was 70 degrees,
then the next day it was 8 degrees!

It started snowing on a Sunday and when it
finally finished there was 8 inches on the ground.
I didn't go anywhere until Friday.

****
Halloween can be an
exciting and wild trip
for kids and families.

But here in Colorado
it usually involves winter coats and boots.

****

Sewing wise....

I was wishing I was at Quilt Festival
along with so many others just
soaking up the inspiration
and doing some retail therapy.

****

Slowly, I
worked on a few things in between
shoveling the driveway.

Why, look, there's a snowblower.

.
But something didn't want to do it's %#@ job!!
Maybe next time I won't have to.

****

I silently joined in with Sharon Knightley's blog
and her new sew along from her book
Autumn Bouquet.

For a long time I've cut leftover small pieces
into different sized squares.
It was the perfect place to find all the pieces for

these cute 3" churn dash blocks.

****

Lastly, I tried to get caught up
watching all the Hallmark movies
I had previously recorded.

Lots of hand stitching opportunity to
get the next Star Upon Star finished.

Still working on it, as you can tell.

Look how different it looks turned around.

Guess it just proves there's nothing right or wrong.
It's just what appeals to you or
works with the other blocks.

As you can tell
there weren't really many downers
during the week.
Just needed to go with the flow
doing a little of this
and a little of that.
Minus the snow shoveling!

Until Next Time-
Kyle
