Softly Spoken and a Giveaway

Yesterday I decided
I needed a little field trip
and went to check out what was new

I don't get to Harriet Hargraves's
quilt shop located in Wheat Ridge, CO
which is a suburb of Denver, very often,
but when I do, it's always a delight.

Of course, when you first walk in the door
the first thing you see is
Harriet's latest line of fabric from Marcus Fabrics
called "Softly Spoken".
It's beautiful.
Some did come home with me.

The colors are terracottas, blush,
aqua tones and neutrals.
The line was inspired from a medallion antique
quilt from Virginia, circa 1820-1840's.

The colors are sweet
and yet elegant looking.
And have been accurately
reproduced from the originals.

In celebration of "summer fun",
 I'd like to share a
fat quarter bundle of this new delicious fabric line
with one of my blog readers.
5 fat quarters

Just leave me a note
letting me know what project or projects
you're trying to concentrate on this summer.
I'll draw somebody's name
next Monday, July 7th.
(If your comment doesn't include your email
please be sure and include it.)

Until Next Time-

  1. OH, what a fun shop! I have been there only once, and wanted to see Miss Harriet, but she was off touring and teaching. I love the plaid section in the front of the store too!! What gorgeous fabrics...I know you will make something amazing from them!

  3. Harriet's shop sounds wonderful and her newest line is definitely on the must acquire list. My current project is a red work 1930s quilt that has to be finished by end of August for our show, with some magic capes being sewn inbetween times for the grand babies.

  4. What a gorgeous line of fabrics. I have Harriet's book on machine quilting (an older edition) but didn't know she had a shop. If we are anywhere near Denver on our trip back to the east coast I'd love to spend some time there.

  5. I found your blog through Kathie's at Inspired by Antique Quilts. Early 1800's fabrics are one of my favorite time periods. I haven't seen fabrics from this line yet. I will have to be on the lookout, they are lovely. I am just about to start the hand quilting on a blue and white star quilt. Batting arrived yesterday, but they sent the wrong size. So I will have to wait a few more days to get started.

  6. How wonderful to be so close to Harriet's shop. This new collection is so lovely, would love to make a bed-sized quilt with it. Right now, I'm working on a small quilt-of-the-month pattern from Temecula Quilt Co. that includes a variety of Civil War fabrics.

  7. This is definitely a sweet new line of fabric. With the darker, duller lines of fabrics from the Civil War years, it's a joy to see the much prettier early 1800s fabrics. I'm hoping to get a good start on Lucy Boston POTC blocks this summer, but my main summertime goal is to finish a UFO quilt using my Civil War repro fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway, Kyle.

  11. The fabrics are soft in color and shade. So pretty.
I am working on several quilts as usual. I am trying to complete a 4 season quilt by Cheri and am getting close to having the blocks ready to sew together. And I started cutting this morning for a sailboat quilt.

  12. Wow, those are very pretty colors. You don't see much of that soft looking fabric in the repro lines these days.
This is my year of the UFO, and I have plenty of projects that need my attention to at least get to a flimsy stage. And along the way I am squeezing in a mini or two. I can see this fabric making a lovely little quilt! Thanks for the chance to win, Kyle!

  14. Oh I would love to visit that store! Lovely fat quarters and a generous giveaway! I'm hoping to finish my Worry Baskets quilt and also get my St. Paul Blocks and my Flock of Geese project into a quilt top. Hopefully there will be other things accomplished along the way.:)

  15. Thank you for such a sweet giveaway! I am traveling this summer, so I pieced 3 pillow tops to hand quilt as densely as possible, and hopefully that will keep me out of mischief until we get home. :) I did bring a backup cross stitch project just in case. :) I love hearing about your quilting adventures! sarah@forrussia.org

  16. One of my favorite quilts on our winter bed is made from Harriet's early collections - her fabrics are always special. Your fat 1/4 bundle is presented so well - someone will be lucky indeed! What am I focusing on this summer? Too much - Benjamin Biggs, Drayton Hall, Di's Mystery Quilt and true confession - since seeing your fantastic and completed Old Glory quilt (Blackbird Designs) have hauled out my old templates and fabrics. Yikes! Over the edge!

  17. The colours of those fabrics are so dreamy. It sounds like a wonderful store. No need to include me in your giveaway because I have too much fabric already but it's a great giveaway!!

  18. Such lovely fabrics and perfectly named.
I guess my main concentration this summer would have to be my Auntie Green.
These fabrics remind me of her.

  19. Well this is good timing...I had been thinking only yesterday what a lovely line this is - nice to have some romantic repros and these are so pretty! Thanks for the opportunity. I have several projects on the go as usual but the most pressing is a gift for a September wedding. I find it hard to motivate myself with machine pieced projects but the deadline helps!

  21. What soft, pretty fabrics!! I bet her shop is delightful! I'm feeling so motivated to work on the borders for my Civil War Bride quilt after reading your post on your Roseville Album border progress. Thanks for the chance :0)

  23. Oh, love those fabrics! Just my style!
I'm trying to finish my Boxy Star top (Quiltville pattern), but first need to decide on the fabric for the sashings. And I'm upholstering a swivel chair for my husband, now if only I could find the time for all that....

  24. Kyle the fabrics you have chosen are beautiful and anyone would love winning them. I admire your generous heart - not everyone has that. :) Please don't include me in your giveaway though because I am steadily working my way through UFOs and am feeling both blessed and undeserving with each one because God has given me so much. Thank goodness for His grace! blessings, marlene

  25. What beautiful fabric! I am slowly working my way through machine quilting my tops so I can start something new this winter. Also trying to finish up my spool leader ender blocks - only 250 more to go! But I did decide to start a new 'slow' project called Farm Fresh by Buggy Barn. Love hearing about your quilting plans!

  26. What pretty fabrics - I don't think I've seen those! I'm making a feeble attempt at beginning the Quiltmania Mystery Quilt that you've been working on - and I'd like to make a couple small RWB quilts too.
