The County Fair

This week I was a volunteer
at the county fair in the open class
quilting section.

It is always so much fun, and educational as well.
This year the number of quilts entered was lower than usual.

It would have been a good year to enter.
Your chances of earning a prize was a good one.

My friends who are the organizers of the judging
do a wonderful job.
It's hard work to keep everything and everybody in line.

Quilts were laid out and the
judges began their work.

I've judged a couple of times and it's not easy.
It's hard not to let your biases get in the way.
We all have our likes and dislikes.
A judge needs to try and be as fair as possible
and look at the quilts in a completely open mind.

While the quilting was going on, other venues were judging as well.

Preserves

Baked Goods

My friend is watching nervously as the judge
slices into her peach pie.

The fun part about the baked goods area is that
the non ribbon items are sold.
I brought home a loaf of zucchini bread that was great.
Everything looked delicious, because it was
somebody's  best effort.

Finally back in the quilting area, the winner are chosen and
then we had hang and display them.

Our fair opens Friday, August 5.

There's something truly small town America
in the county fairs held across our country.
If you have an opportunity, go and enjoy
your county fair.
It will be a wonderful experience.

Until Next Time-
