Ready to Go....

With the close of the school year

my weekly Nana duties have ended

for the summer.

That opens up some time to do

some travelling! 

Of course, that requires

getting some stitching ready
to occupy flight times.

I pulled out two 

Crabapple Hill Studio patterns

to prep the embroidery.

Why not work on Christmas

and some redwork.

"Trim the Tree"

I've threaded a dozen needles, collected

the floss and thimble.

I'm ready

 to head off.

The second piece required some crayon coloring.

The areas you want to tint with crayons

first need to be filled in completely 

with a white crayon

This allows the pigment of the

crayon to fill in the weave of the fabric 

and make the color smoother.

Then have fun with the crayons.

Once the color is filled in

simply iron the piece.

The crayon melts 

giving the colored sections a soft 

"Autumn Calls"

tint of color which will be

enhanced with the embroidery. 

Looks like I'm ready.

June's going to be a busy month.

A Crabapple Hill Retreat

 I've been patiently waiting for over a year

to head off on this particular quilting retreat.

Three of my Quilty Buddies plus me

headed to the Tri-City area of eastern Washington State

to meet with Meg Hawkey

and embroidery for 3 straight days.

 What a treat.

Meg's designs are

sweet,

beautiful,

and charming.

Her embroidery designs

create a cozy feeling

 

reminiscent of a simpler time.

What did we work on?

 We did some fun crayon tinting

 and then began stitching.

It will eventually be a strawberry shaped pincushion.

There were strawberry scissor fobs to make

and cute needle keeps to work on.

As well, as a springtime burlap tote.

We were feed and pampered

in Meg's beautifully decorated

retreat center.

It was inspiring from the moment we walked in the door

to when we finally had to head home.

Quilting retreats no matter the place or the
amount of time you get to spend with
friends and work on projects
is truly refreshing for the soul.
I do feel refreshed!

 Despite the fact that fireworks 

and firecrackers were pretty much

finished last weekend,

I continue to look at the month of July

as the Red, White and Blue month.

That way I don't feel bad

finishing up this cute free embroidery pattern

from Crabapple Hill.

 I had taken the pattern and enlarged it,

did some coloring with crayons,

heat set the color, 

and finished up with the embroidery.

It became the perfect size for a 

small holiday pillow.

 (11" x 17")

 I decided it needed the rickrack to

frame the piece and, of course,

so many things look better with rickrack.

Don't you agree?

It was nice to have a smallish project to work on.

Something to pick up and work on and

relax with.

 We've had a rainy week 

here in colorful Colorado,

lots of welcomed rain and moisture.

And it's found me inside

busily sewing on a project that

I can show you next week.

 Let's just say, it's the kind of 

thing only a Nana would do

for her sweet grandkiddos.

Not necessarily smallish or relaxing.
