Sometimes a quilt is all about
the pattern design.
Sometimes a quilt is all about
the colors.
And sometimes it is all
about using the fabric.
"September Colours"
27" x 36"
My mini quilt of the month
might be called
"September Colours",
but really it's all about the fabric.
My inspiration was
from Margaret Mew's book
Quilts from the Colonies.
She had used what she called,
a wavy print,
in the sashing and borders
of her quilt called
"a-Tisket a-Tasket".
Di Ford, who designs for Andover Fabrics,
has many so called "wavy prints".
I chose this wonderful plum colored design
from her Windermere collection.
It was the same lovely color of the
prairie sage that was blooming.
September is also the time
to harvest fruits and vegetables
from the garden and carry them home
in baskets. What better pattern
to use for a September quilt.
I kept the quilting simple so
as not to distract from
all the fabulous fabrics.
all the fabulous fabrics.
In my attempt to mathematically
figuring out my pieced border,
I humbly created four different corners.
They just make me smile.
But my eyes aren't going to
my mismatched corners, but rather
to that delightful "wavy print" and
all of the other prints creating
lots and lots of texture.
I love that wiggly sashing!
What have you done with
a print like this?
It's that time again when
those of us that have been
following along with Wendy,
check in with our monthly creations.
Take a moment and
see what others have been working on.
It's always an inspiration.
It's always an inspiration.
Until Next Time-
Kyle
Stunning! Simple, stunning! I love your use of that wavy print and I love the wavy background in one of the blocks too. The colors are gorgeous. Funny, I was thinking of making a basket for September too but ran out of time. Great minds think alike. Thanks for sharing your little treasure. I look forward to hearing about your recent trip too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous little quilt, with the gorgeous fabrics (fancy and sort of Victorian looking to me), the wavy print so perfect for the sashing and borders. You are so right, a basket is perfect for September. Love your prairie sage, too.
ReplyDeleteI like the border print. I think the wavy parts make really good sashings. And the color is good. Great choice of fabrics, Kyle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun use for that fabric. I have had a red wavy fabric in my stash for many years and have been toying with using it for a flag quilt. I love your corners--a little quirkiness adds to the charm!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty basket quilt! I love the wavy border/sashing, the tiny pinwheels, and the quilting in the baskets. You will enjoy displaying this lovely new quilt :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! All the fabrics are beautiful, but you're right, the wavy print in the inner border and sashing stand out as particularly lovely. The pieced border got my attention right away, as a beautiful frame. And I adore the baskets! Wonderful, all the way around.
ReplyDeleteThe wavy print does steal the show, but if you give your eye time to travel beyond, there is so much more to see and love--the pinwheels and baskets, and are those prairie points in the outer border, or is that pieced? Either way, it is a wonderful addition! The colors are beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteKyle que precio mini.
ReplyDeleteme encanta todo de este trabajo,
las cestas son mi debilidad !!
saludos
That truly is a beautiful little quilt, in every respect! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, how sweet is this quilt? Love it! Perfect way to showcase those wiggling, wavy prints.:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics! It is so true that with most quilts it is all about the fabric. Good fabric only need a simple pattern. Yours is really a good example of chooding the right fabrics!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous September mini! Love the way you used those gorgeous fabrics. They are absolutely perfect. Basket quilts always make me smile :)
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! Those wavy lines are perfect. I have some fabric too and they sit in a bin because I don't know what to do with them. Thanks for the ideas.
ReplyDeletePurple is not my favorite, but it sparkles in this quilt! It's gorgeous! Reminds me of victorian lace....in autumn, of course!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and the wavy sashings are perfect. I love your humble corners too! Then again, I don't think I've ever met a basket quilt that I didn't love.
ReplyDeleteBasket quilts are one of my favorites. I love the border on this quilt. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhen we easterners think of autumn and September our minds go to red and gold and brown shades, but your color scheme is so perfect for a Colorado fall, softer shades, and especially that gorgeous purple sage. I don't believe I've ever had any wavy fabrics like that but they certainly do add sparkle and movement to the quilt. Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteWhat an elegant color pallet! I absolutely love this little basket quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe wavy fabric is an awesome print.
The photo of this beauty in the garden is charming.
Fabulous fabrics, indeed! Love the wavy fabrics and the plum border. The combination of everything definitely makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteLove basket blocks and purple is such an under rated colour, this mini is just delightful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely use of fabrics, that purple border is a fav of mine. Love the pattern too, so delightful. A great tribute to 2 fabulous designers (and lovely ladies), Di Ford and Margaret Mew.
ReplyDeleteThe basket blocks are lovely. Thye have always been a favourite.
ReplyDeleteI think the borders look great, too.
Lovely result.
