Things to Do When It's -2 Degrees

I love to make lists.
So
I made a list of the things to do
when the temperature dips to a
frosty 2 below. (-19C)

1.Stay Home- The joys of being retired,
but say a little prayer for those
who do have to travel.

2. Keep Your Insides Warm- Enjoy whatever
you like, tea, soup or hot chocolate.

I was going to put some marshmallow
fluff on top but it was as hard as rock in the jar.
Better put it on my grocery list.
There might be more cold weather.

3.  Make More Lists- This is the time of year
for making lists,
Gift lists,
Things to Do Today lists,
Projects to Finish before the End of the Year lists,
New Projects for 2015 lists

4. Enjoy the Moment- Hunker down and
 watch a movie,
get caught up on your favorite blogs, or
 listen to an audio book,
which you had the common sense to pick
up before the arctic blast blasted in.

5.  Work on a Binding- While your watching
your favorite movie
snuggle under the quilt you've been meaning to
get the binding sewn down on and
do some stitching.

6.  Feed the Birds- Don't forget our
feathered friends.

7. Adapt Your Attire- Pull out those
warm fuzzy sweatpants that you'd never let
anyone see you in.
 (sorry no photo :0)

8. Get the Mail Tomorrow-  Whatever is in the
box can wait until tomorrow or whenever it
warms up enough to walk down to the end of the driveway.

9. Bake Muffins-  You've got to have something
to go with the soup that's for dinner.

10. Look Out the Window- Be thankful for the
blessing of a warm house to keep you safe.

Until Next time-

Searching for Eagles

Monday afternoon was the perfect time for searching for bald eagles.  The snow had stopped and the sky was blue.  Ed and I started walking around the Prospect Ponds.  You can see a lot of bald eagles in Fort Collins during the winter.  We were equipped with binoculars and my camera with a telephoto lens.

See anything yet?

Maybe over here.

We waited and looked.  I know they were watching us, but we just didn't see them.  Only a red tailed hawk glided overhead.

We'll try again.  But in the mean time it was wonderful to be outside.

SMILE!

Winter Olympic Update

The Winter Olympics have been happening for a week with lots of excitement and drama.  I have continued to experience my own Olympics.  My cross country event, jogging on the treadmill, is where I have recorded over 20 miles of endurance, the figure skating events have shown exceptional precision and I've completed 7 ocean wave pieced units, and the giant slalom and binding  is half way completed.  I'm on my way to victory.

This week Ed purchased for his home office a new printer, scanner, copier, fax machine. What a wonderful tool!  I can see all kinds of possibilities.

I scanned a few past Olympic photos that I thought you might enjoy.

On his way to GOLD with a record time.

It's a cold and snowy day here so I guess I will go and watch a bit more of the real Winter Olympics.

What's Out There?

It was just a beautiful day today.  I guess I shouldn't grinch about January so much.  I looked out our family room window; blue sky, wispy clouds, a frozen lake, snow, and the foothills.

But way out on the ice, there's something out there.  I get the binoculars and ...What's he doing out there?

The Slow March Thru January

I don't know what it is about the month of January, but it seems like it lasts forever. It is so different from June, which is a great month.  June has lots of sunshine, the temperature is warm, and you don't have to bundle up to go outside. It's a month that makes you feel good.  January, on the other hand, just doesn't have much going for it.

Today the temperature is steadily dropping and the snow shows no sign of stopping.

depressing and sad

dismal and dreary

There's got to be a way to make January better.  Well, Elizabeth's birthday will be here on the 13th.  That's a good thing.  But other than that, there's not much else.

So I decided, that one way that makes me feeling better is to head off to my sewing room and start cutting and sewing things.  I had bought some fabrics last month and it's just been waiting for me.

With my little floor heater humming, my fingerless gloves on, and an audio book playing, I found myself having a great time despite the weather. Look what I started:

Happy and Glad

32 sawtooth star blocks done and more fabrics just waiting to be transformed.  The fabric is Rouenneries by French General.  It's yummy.
That's was a good solution for this "dreary January day.".  It kept my mind off  the fact that there still is 25 days left to go before February!
