Doesn't it make you happy

when certain opportunities

fall perfectly into place?

You just want to shout

Here's how it happened.

Well, last month was my birthday,

I had recently purchased Australian designer,

 Susan Smith's book,

Quilting Somewhat in The Middle,

and then I discovered

Homestead Hearth Quilt shop was going 

to begin a BOM for Susan's quilt,

the Lewis Coverlet, the quilt

featured on the cover.

I would say it was a 

serendipity moment.

It's been a very long time since I

signed up for a BOM through a quilt shop.

It has it's pros and cons.

But the timing seemed right, and I

was eager to play with one of Susan's designs.

I just received month #2 

 and I've been super pleased with

the shops fabric choices.

I know it's hard to please everyone,

but the fabrics are very close the original quilt

and come clearly labeled.

Of course, there is no law

that says if I don't like something that I 

can't change it.

If I miss cut, the quilt is scrappy enough,

I can just add something else.

The center of this medallion style quilt

was the first month's section.

The colors are soft and look

like the quilt has been well loved

for a long time already.

It's part of Susan's cozy style.

This month's section will be a 

time consuming working on the floral

garland that's in the center.

Lots of pieces to applique.

My needle and thread are ready.

"LMNOP"

 When kids learn to sing the

alphabet song,

 the letters

"L,M,N,O,P"

get lumped together.

So, little kiddos,

sing merrily along,

not aware that there

are 26 letters in the alphabet,

not just 22.

I finally had a chance to get caught up

with the Quilt Show's BOM

A-Z for Ewe and Me,

by Janet Stone.

It's too easy to get behind.

This week, I worked on the 

letter

"LMNOP" plus a few others.

A sampler is fun, but 

it's important to pay attention

as you work on each new block.

It's all about balance.
Making sure that the colors and fabrics
are evenly distributed over the quilt top.
Especially, when the BOM
has you sewing the blocks together as you go.

 Then it's easy to get off balance.

But, so far, so good, I think.

Especially the letter
"LMNOP"

I'm Glad I Waited

Later is better than never.

Right?

Having something take place even though 

a lot of time has passed

is better than never having it happen at all.

Recently I reacquainted

 myself with  a lovely pile of fabrics

that were put

together

15+ years  ago.

And, the fact, 

that I actually still wanted to use

those fabric in a project

can only be described as

astounding,

amazing,

astonishing,

and

it's about time!!! 

As you can see it's a line from

Sandy Gervais from 

about 15 years ago.

I fell in love with the soft pastel colors

and whimsical flower prints.

I had originally chosen a pattern

and prewashed the fabrics,

but it never went further than that.

Why?

 I don't exactly know.

But sometimes

it's a good thing.

Because I have found that I think is

the perfect project for this

huge stack of fabric.

This year on the Quilt Show

with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims,

Janet Stone has designed a 

delightful quilt

 A - Z with Ewe and Me!

After completing the January

set of directions,

I definitely know

it was the right choice.

The fused alphabet letters

are all different styles and

are embellished with a 

the double button hole stitch.

I decided to use a Metler 

#30 embroidery weight thread

to add some texture to the letter shapes.

And to use a few different colors

 to add some variety and 

to pull all the pastels together.

Granted this BOM will take

a year to piece, but at this point

what's another 12 months!
