Another Month, Another Mini

It's the end of another month,
not sure which one it is,
but never the less,
I knew it was time to share.

Anyone else feel like that?

Anyway, without further delay...

Springtime, 2020
32" x 32"

My creative juices have been
feeling rather sluggish lately,
but fortunately,
 Stacy West
of Buttermilk Basin was sharing
her creativity with a fun free
spring time sew-a-long.

It gave me a chance to
pull out little bits and pieces of
sweet spring time pastel fabrics.

It was an exercise in
making do and using what I had,
but that was an okay good feeling.

The blocks finished at 4 inches
and were easy to do.

I plan on donating it to a
group at a local church.

So I kept the quilting simple, but I
had a tulip and heart stencil that fit the
borders perfectly.

My time saver for donated quilts is to do
a faux flange binding.

There are lots of tutorials available online.
Check them out.

I like the color accent it adds to the edge
and is the only way I can machine stitch
the binding in place and have it look good!

Note: If you are interested in the pattern
look on Stacy's website immediately.  I don't think
it will be available for free much longer,
but then you could purchase it from her later on.
Thanks, Stacy!

The other simple project
I finished was machine quilting a
delightful panel I had ordered
from Fat Quarter Shop a couple of
months ago.

The message seems so appropriate.

It was fun to quilt by simply
outlining the cute characters.

Simple quilting was the way to go.

I got it in the mail today
for my grandkiddos in Denver.

Hopefully, it will be a perfect reminder for
them and,
actually, one for all of us.

Until Next Time-
Kyle

  3. Two very lovely quilts, Kyle. The fabrics are so happy in the spring time one and the quilting is perfect for it. I barely know what month it is, much less the day.

  6. Yes, it is so hard to keep track of which day it is when they are all the same...eat, stitch, sleep, repeat! Love your projects. Thanks for tip on the binding.

  8. A sweet little mini. At first look, I thought the blocks were smaller than 4 inches and would have been a bit of a challenge but four inches would be okay. I have not been following the sew along but it is tempting.
Just find me some more hours

  10. That is an adorable mini for spring. Very nice job, Kyle. I think I really need to learn how to do that flange binding. It looks so good, and would be a quicker way to put a nice finish on a quilt that needed binding yesterday. My hand binding skills are good--but slow!!
That is a perfect panel for any time, but so pertinent for this unique period in which we find ourselves!

  11. Your spring time mini is just as sweet as can be and I love your sense of color. I honestly think quilts made by "making do" rather than from one particular line of fabric, are much more interesting and personal. The flange binding looks good too!

Your flange is perfect. I've never mastered that one.
What a panel for the grandkids. I'm sure you miss them so much.
It is the perfect message at this weird time.

  13. What a sweet little quilt--perfect for Spring and so cheerful! Your grands will love the panel quilt. I purchased a few panels years ago thinking I would hone my machine quilting skills but it never happened. Good for you to get it done!

  16. What a perfect mini for Spring! We haven't seen many signs of it here. In fact, it snowed again yesterday, but it will eventually arrive and we all hope it brings more than just a weather change. You little quilt just makes me smile and think of brighter days. Thanks for sharing. I will link them all in tomorrow's post. I love the little panel too. Missing our grandchildren is the hardest part for sure!

  19. Your grandkids will adore the panel! So cute. And your mini is very springy. 'Sluggish' is a perfect word for what all of us are feeling lately. I'm so glad our weather has been good here as the sunshine naturally lifts all of our moods.:)

The panel is one a little boy will love to have in his room I think.

  22. I have lost all sense of time I feel.... and not only do we not physically see our friends and loved ones any more, when we do meet online no one has anything to tell anymore, did you notice? Everyone's life has fallen flat it seems. That and all the deaths ... it is such a sad, sad time.
Your quilt is very sweet and very uplifting. And beautiful binding. I had never seen this before. Your grand children will love the panel, I am sure. Stay safe!
