Quilts for June

When I turned the page of the calendar,
June looks like it will be a busy month.

Even though there is always something to
vie for my time, I try to still find
time here and there to work on a quilting project.
We all make time for the things we like to do.

A few minutes each day can accomplish a lot by
the end of the week.

Here are a couple of quilts I wanted to share.

"Blue Tick"
2006
This pattern is a Blackbird pattern.  The applique
is by hand and it was machine quilted.

I have always loved this quilt.
In fact, it's on my bed now.

There were several of us who wanted to make this pattern.
So we all bought this great blue ticking  fabric for the background.
 Hence, the name.
I used the reverse side of the fabric
so the color was softer.

You can see by the label it took me a couple of years
to complete the top.
It's one of those projects that finally gets completed, but only if
you keep working on it.

This second quilt is the first quilt I made for
the "Stashbuster's Class" we have at the store

"Stashbusters 1"
2007
It's a pattern from Kim Diehl's book Simple Traditions.
Lots of nine patches and hourglass blocks.
I used a lot of stash, but didn't use anything up.
Basically, made a mess in my sewing room by pulling out
so many different fabrics and cutting off just a little strip off of each.
I love the way all the fabrics play nice together.

On this quilt, I machine appliqued the vine, flowers and leaves.
And machine quilted it myself.

The colors are the brighter colors of summer.

Even though your calendar says there is  a lot to do this month
keep working on the projects you love.
They'll get done eventually.

Lights, Action, Camera

Have you ever watched a commercial being filmed?
I hadn't.

But it seems that anything being filmed doesn't look as glamorous
when it's in production than
when it's been edited and ready to be shown.

Last week a fellow came to the door and said a commercial
riding lawnmower company in the area was looking for
a location to film some promotion footage for a DVD promoting
their product.  Would we be interested in allowing them
to use our yard?
The film crew and mower people arrive. The guy on the cell
is probably talking to Hollywood.

Our lawn and yard seemed to have all the characteristics that would
make a great backdrop for their mower.

Ed was very flattered.  He worked like a mad man
this past week making sure not a leaf or blade of grass
was out of place.

A lot of helpers, cameras,  and  starts and stops.

The lake made a nice backdrop.

 Here comes the mower.
But where's the sexy, handsome, leading man?

The good part is that they mowed the entire lawn so
Ed has a weeks reprieve plus

they gave Ed a lawn mower!
That was quite a deal.

Watch for us in a DVD soon!
Unless we're left on the cutting room floor.

Let It Snow-Not Really

This week we are finally suppose
to get some hot weather.
Summer might actually be close.

And I finally finished the quilt
"Snowmen from A to Zzzz."
Snowmen in June?
This pattern from Crabapple Hill is super cute.
I've been embroidering on it for
over a year.

I had it machine quilted by a local quilter, Kathy H.
She added funky swirls over the quilt, which went along with the
quirkiness of the snowmen.

What's taken me three weeks to do is
some bead work.  I wanted to add
some sparkle and I had to do it after the quilt was quilted.
I added a lot of beads and
I really like how it turned out.

Beading was something I had never done before.
It's good to try a new technique.

Here's the label.
You always think you'll remember when you made something.
Not really.

I'm actually tired of the cold weather we've had this spring
so this quilt is getting tucked away until next year.
Then it can snow, but no more snowmen for now.
