The Last Mini Quilt for 2021

Hope you had a very Merry Christmas
and a happy holiday.
Now we switch gears and
it's time to start a new year.

But until January gets too
far ahead I need to share
my 2021 December mini.

My latest mini is reflective of the season
in the classic color combination
of reds and greens.

Christmas Poinsettias
30" x 30"
2021

This pattern was inspired by Kim Diehl
from her book
Simple Whatnots II

Kim has also provided this as a free pattern
from Henry Glass Fabrics.

This quilt was a good combination
of pieced flowers and appliqued stems and leaves.

It was also a nice way to use
some of those reds and greens
I've been collecting.

I few fluttering snowflakes
would be perfect to showcase
this fun holiday quilt,
but nothing yet.

I kept the machine quilting simple by outlining the
flowers along with a few feathers and
then a simple loopy design in the border.

I dug around for awhile
looking for a backing and finally decided
on this fabric.

Well, this is really an oldie.  I bought it in
1974 and made bedroom curtains!
Some of you may recognize it as one of
the timely calico prints from Ely and Walker.
The company printing this design and several others
for a long time even up through the 70's.
Ely and Walker Dry Goods started manufacturing fabric in
1855 in St. Louis.

Maybe, without realizing it,
I have started a
 Red and Green Christmas series.

2021                                       2019                              2020

I'll have to keep that in mind when
December, 2022 rolls around.

Maybe you're ready to join in
making a monthly mini coordinated by

and her quilty mini-ettes as we march into 2022.
Time to get stitching.

Until Next Time-
Kyle

  5. What a great pattern for this month's mini! Love the red/green combo and your "simple" machine quilting is the perfect finishing touch. I had some of that Ely & Walker fabric. Your quilt is the perfect addition to your Christmas series :) Happy New Year!

  9. Red and green with some appliqué is my favorite! I love it together with your other Christmas minis. I started a little Christmas mini too (a late start) If I keep working on it I will have it to enjoy for next Christmas.

  10. Such a beautiful quilt! I loved seeing your red and green quilts together. I wish I could send you some of our snow! We have been breaking records up here. I just keep shoveling and shoveling, but don’t seem to make any progress, it just keeps snowing.

  11. I LOVE your mini in those classic Christmas colors! It’s beautiful! I’m a huge fan of red, green, and white quilts and would love to make a few over the next few years for my own collection. If I stick to smaller sizes, it might be possible!😊. Wishing you a Happy New Year!

  12. Lovely mini Kyle. I love the picture of the three of them together. Two is just a pair but when you have 3 or more it's a collection. I have enjoyed your blog this year and seeing the charming things you make. You have great color sense.

  16. A perfect quilt for December. Do you use these little quilts as table toppers, wall hangings, or what? I had this idea of lining the walls of my sewing room with little quilts (similar to Primitive Gatherings) but Mr. is not keen on the idea of putting so many holes in the walls for the rods to hang them on.

  20. Wow! What a perfect Christmas quilt, Kyle--I love seeing them all hanging together, too. A beautiful collection you've started. Not being a quilter, I'm wondering if you wash your fabric before you cut it out and piece it together? Do you ever have trouble with reds bleeding?

Wishing you a wonderful 2022 with lots of quilting/stitching time!
