I'm sure at one time or another
you've been part of a Secret Santa
gift exchange.
This year I was a recipient of
a secret Santa gift from
the Temecula Quilt Co quilt shop.
I have never been to the shop in Temecula, California,
or never have met the shop owner, Sheryl Johnson,
but she shared a wonderful secret Santa mystery quilt design
with anyone who read her blog.
What an awesome gift!
Each week we received another clue.
A little more cutting and
some more sewing.
Nine patches...
4 patches...
Greens...
and plenty of Reds and Neutrals.
Lots of oldies, but goodies, for sure.
After 5-6 weeks
this sweet Christmas variation of
the classic Burgoyne Surrounded quilt
was sewn together.
"Secret Santa"
42" x 54"
I machine quilted using a 28wt. Aurifil thread.
I love the texture it created.
Snowflakes, and
snow blowing swirls.
Of course, there were lots of
things I should have been working on,
but it was exciting to get a mystery
Secret Santa gift each week.
This pattern has been on my
perpetual list for 20+ years.
Sheryl divided up the construction
in easy and doable segments.
I think 2019 will find me
FINALLY making this pattern
1991
in the indigo and white fabrics I had planned
so long ago.
Thanks, Sheryl for sharing
your mystery with all of us.
It was a fabulous seasonal project.
Wishing you all a Happy Holiday season
and Merry Christmas. We'll catch up
after the New Year.
Until Then-
Kyle
I've been admiring all the quilts that were made using their pattern ..... I'm admiring yours too! Your indigo/white quilt will be beautiful and I look forward to seeing it next year. Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny about those perpetual lists, eventually they DO rise to the top of the list! Beautiful Christmas/winter quilt perfect for snuggling up with a good book. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI just love it!!! So very pretty...do you have a long arm quilting machine?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet Christmas quilt. I have always loved that pattern as well. Funny how it seems to go faster when it is done in a mystery sew-a-long! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful quilt. I'm still working on a similar quilt made in red, white and blues that I started a few years ago. It's on my UFO list for next year. I hope it turns out half as nice as yours. Have a wonderful Holiday Season. Hugs
ReplyDeleteA perfect Christmas version of Burgoyne Surrounded - such a classic pattern! Looking forward to seeing your indigos rendition...Recognized your book right away as it is on my own shelf- the 1930’s butterscotch/white Lindy quilt has been on my bucket list for ever (because of husband’s flying background) ...Have a lovely Christmas and New Year’s - and here is to many more hours of happy stitching in 2019.
ReplyDeleteYour Temecula Secret Santa quilt turned out wonderfully! I love how you have quilted it! Breaking the pattern down into batches of 9 patches and four patches etc.. made it so doable. It will be wonderful made with indigo and white fabrics. I hope someday you get the chance to go to the Temecula shop - it's wonderful and in such a beautiful area. Merry Christmas to you Kyle! May there be time for lots of exciting stitching projects in 2019 :0)

ReplyDeleteYou did a marvelous job, and I look forward to your beautiful Indigo version in the coming year.
Merry Christmas, Kyle!
Just lovely Kyle - a perfect Christmas quilt. I was sorely tempted to play along but it would have been crazy days as this is such a busy time of the year for me. Nothing stopping me from adding it to my TO DO list tho, is there? A very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern too, but I have a blue and white mini version that is a UFO, I need to dig it out and get it done these holidays! I think your quilt is stunning, especially the quilting. I am sure this will be a favorite holiday quilt for many years to come.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful with the reds and greens and I am sure it will be just as pretty in blue and white.

ReplyDeleteI have that book too. Its a good standard. You have mastered the BS block - good for you! I tried it as a young quilter and failed and have never tried it again.
Looks like a great new year project.
Congrats on your beautiful Secret Santa quilt, it looks perfect for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYour Secret Santa turned out so sweet! It was a fun mystery for sure! I feel the same way as you—I need to make another one—larger of course. And I’m sure it would not be a surprise that mine will be blue and white also!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out so nicely! I especially like your quilting. I was very tempted to follow along on this one, but I was trying to get my current projects done.
ReplyDeleteYour Secret Santa Burgoyne is wonderful! Thanks for the idea to try Aurifil 28wt for machine quilting. I love the look it brings to your quilt. I'm happy you've succumbed to the Burgoyne bug! I'll be stitching along with you next year as I try to finish my BS blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have that BH America's Heritage Quilts book, too - it's still one of my favorites!
