I can tell I must be getting older
because certain things seem to bug me
more and more.
This Sunday is the biggest commercial day of
the year, in conjunction with the Super Bowl.
It is the only day of the year that TV commercials
don't drive me crazy.
I don't understand the strategy when a
commercial will run two times within the same
break time or
repeat over and over again during the same television
show
or they are so long winded that they are longer than the program.
(See I'm getting old.)
I guess that's why I'm not in marketing.
For the past several months when I'm watching TV
I have been the one in control.
I have let my fingers push the MUTE button
that has been placed on my remote and
has been sitting there so silently.
Maybe I'm the last one to realize that it
was OK for me to do this.
We recently switched our TV service to Dish
and have truly enjoyed the advantage of prerecording
a program and then zipping happily through the clutter.
I don't think I'm missing anything.
And, of course, there's always Netflix streaming.
I know this isn't really a big deal but,
I have enough stuff to clutter my head and thoughts
let alone the gazillion bits from commercials.
Take control and
Enjoy the silence!
Until Next Time-
You aren't alone in this - it bothers me, too. I really don't watch much tv, but almost everything I do watch is recorded. It's great to just buzz through all of those commercials. If I want to watch something live, the show is paused, and can be started late. There are usually 15 minutes, at least, per hour. Think of the time we are all losing!
ReplyDeleteEven my sewing room is usually quiet, unless there is a good audio from the library to listen to. I am getting more frugal as I get older, too - I wouldn't buy an audio book!
You are so right. Not only are commercials repeated constantly but why do they turn up the volume...Commercials are always 2x louder than the program.
ReplyDeleteIt pains me when I can't zip through the commercials.
