Summer Time

Summer days have a way of quickly slipping away and
I remind myself that

it's a time to relax and enjoy the simple things.

The last couple of weeks have been filled
with small pleasures.

Like spending time with these two little guys

while tent camping last weekend in the mountains outside of Denver,
something I hadn't done in decades,
but despite my aging body, ended up being great fun.

Then there are these two
little pleasures.
Being a Nana is the best job I've ever had.
I know many of you totally agree.

The sewing has taken a backseat,
but I did manage to make a few hst's

for the my BOM designed by Sue Garman
for the Quilt show.
I used the magic 8 method and trimmed
up the pieces using the Bloc-Loc tool.
I had 160 identical hst's to make and this
combination of sewing and trimming
made the whole process very easy and accurate.

The other day I
discovered the robins were enjoying
all of the cherries from our little tree.
They're the sour kind.
I got them pitted and frozen.
There's a few recipes I'm hoping to try.
One being a sour cherry berry crisp.
 It sounds good.

Maybe in the next couple weeks
I'll have more sewing to share,
but until then
I think I'll just be sharing time

with those I love.
Until Next Time-

  1. You are so right. There is no better time than Nana time. And, you were the most adorable little girl! Guess that is why your grandchildren are all so cute!

  2. You look like you were a petite little girl.
Do you like Bloc-Loc rulers? I see you are using one.

  3. Relaxing and enjoying family sounds like a great summer plan to me! Happy memories are what it's all about. :D

  4. Your posts always make me smile! What a little cutie you were (still are). Oh, aren't those grandkids sweet.
Block-Loc is my fav tool for trimming HSTs.
I love tart cherries. Fresh tart cherries make the BEST cherry pies, and that is one of my top three favorites! But a cherry/berry crisp sounds really good, too. : )
    Such a fun last photo.

  5. I can not think of anything better to do than sharing time with those we love :)

  6. Standing on the sprinkler is a good way to say cool 😀 Enjoy your time with your grands!! I love sour cherries - crisp sounds yummy!!

  7. Summertime should always be about spending time with our precious little ones, and enjoying the fruits of the season. You have your priorities in just the right place! Those cherries look mighty delicious too.

  8. Sounds like the perfect summer, Kyle. Such a cute photo of you at the top :)

I bought the kit for the Quilt Show BOM. It is on the list for later...after the UFOs are done. It will also be my first paper pieced project...YIKES!

  9. Sounds like fun, looks like fun!

  10. Kyle ser abuela es lo mejor, mejor!!!
    tus pitufinos son preciosos,
en mi región con las guindas(cerezas amargas) hacemos un licor con anís, para tener una buena digestión después de una gran comida

  11. Summer always moves at lightning speed as far as I'm concerned (coming from one who detests the cold!). You're a touch older than me (seeing you in a pic from 1952 and I was born 1954) and there is NO WAY I could tent camp and expect to get up in the morning! LOL We had trailers and motorhomes and I much prefer those!! HA Enjoy the grandkids while you can--my one and only will be 21 in Oct. and doesn't have much time for granma.

  12. What a cute picture of you Kyle! I agree totally, spending time with grandkids is the best.
My summerdays with Rosa are starting today. I love to have her for a whole day and be able to do fun things together. Something to be grateful for.
    Have a great day!

  13. Oh your grand kids are so adorable and that pic of you is priceless! Always enjoy reading about the quilting tools you use and the bloc-loc ruler is something I've been wanting to try. Enjoy your summer time!

  14. What a sweet post and so spot on. It is summer and time for outdoor fun and family. I loved the photo of you in the sprinkler. I can remember that was about all you needed to have a fun summer afternoon. :)
I LOVE the last photo. PBS had a program last night on Elephants - the are my favorite big animal.

  15. We love getting to see so much of our Nana this summer!!!! p.s. I think Everdeen looks a little like you in your sprinkler picture :)

  16. Such sweet memories from the past, and sweet memories being made right now! ---"Love"

  17. I make my HSTs exactly like you! Makes it quick and painless! I think my tent camping days are over so I'm impressed that you did that - bravo! So fun to go with the littles......

  18. Sweet babies!
    I love block lock rulers.

  19. Your grandkids are adorable ! I'm not a nana yet but I think it must be an wonderful hobby :)
Enjoy this summer Kyle with them !

  20. ah the grands are just adorable ! Enjoy your family fun time. Sweet post :)
