Twas the week before Christmas
and all through the house,
there was so much commotion
it wasn't fit for a mouse.
13 stockings
hung by the chimney with care
while I was busy baking
trying to keep flour out of my hair.
When suddenly down in the sewing room
there arose such a clatter,
everyone raced
to see what was the matter.
Vintage Ocean Waves
65" x 55"
65" x 55"
"No problem", I said
not wanting a scene,
"I just finished the final project
for 2017!"
It was started in the 40's
and now finished at last.
Stitched by two quilters,
one present, one past.
Just like a puzzle
the pieces were unstitched
and then sewn back together
with nary a hitch.
My eyes how they twinkled
as I looked at what was done.
So much work
yet so much fun.
It's all quiet now with
The fabric and thread put away,
so I'll stop just to wish you all
so I'll stop just to wish you all
a very Happy Holiday.
Until Next Time-
Kyle
Amazing! I think I felt the vibration here in Maine! I'm guessing you have many talents, but I know of 2 for certain. You are a fantastic quilter and writer. I so enjoyed your version of this famous story. I'm sure that the original maker of this quilt is smiling down upon you now with a grateful heart. It is a treasure. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

ReplyDeletea beautiful quilt, what a lovely tribute to all those quilters past, who departed this world with UFO's, makes me glad to know that someone in the future might finish mine!
ReplyDeleteIt's like peppermint candy, all glowing and bright! And that's as far as I'm going with this rhyme tonight!

ReplyDeleteThat was a labour of love! It looks just gorgeous! The handquilting is marvellous. You did so great this year with your 17 in 2017 challenge. Something new planned for 2018??
ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations on such a stunning finish!! It was a delight and an inspiration to follow along with this project - a toast will be made in your honor! Merry Christmas and I'll see 'ya next year!
ReplyDeleteVery well done! I am sure the quilter who started this project would be thrilled to see it is finished and so very pretty!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Christmas and a happy stitch new year!
I could send you some of my older projects and let you finish them. You have done well in finishing something started so long ago.
ReplyDeleteIt's just wonderful! I've always wanted to make an Ocean Waves quilt, but all those triangles are so intimidating to me. Love your finish (and your poetry!).
ReplyDeleteQuilt is beautiful. Love the hand quilting with the vintage fabrics. A long-ago UFO completed. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to finish 2017. Your quilt is looking great. So much lovely work in it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thoroughly enjoyed your variation on the Night Before Christmas. Lots of fun.
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed!!! With your poetry and with your quilt. My friend next door finished a quilt that she found that her grandmother had started back in the 30's or 40's, I feel like there must be a true connection that happens when you do something like that. I feel connected to my Mom every-time I bake using her old mixing bowls and that is not as endearing as the time spent stitching love into a quilt. This is going to be a treasured item for many years to come:)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Very Merry Christmas!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
