A Baby Shower

It's almost time for a new baby to join our family.
Jessica and Martin's little girl will be
arriving in July.

But for now it's time to celebrate.

Of course, my gift needed to be a special
quilt for a special new little baby girl.

Martin's childhood dog had always been
a wiener dog,
so when I saw this pattern by
Bonnie Sullivan,
of All Through the Night
called Bow Wow Doggie Blanket
I knew that this was going to be the one I made
when they decided to start their family.

I choose to make it using pastel solids.
I hadn't worked in solids for a long time.
Using machine applique techniques, I
quickly got the dogs appliqued.
The rest went together quickly as well.

The hardest part was trying to decide
on the quilting pattern.
I didn't want to do an over all design so
it took more time deciding, planning,
and quilting.

I used a DMC embroidery thread so
the quilt would remain lighter in weight
despite all the stitching.

Don't you remember  those slinky dog pull toys.
They've been popular since the 1950's.

With the movie, Toy Story, new generations
of children have started to enjoy this toy as well.

Of course, I had to get one of those as well.

Now this new little girl can play with her slinky dog and be
snugly under one too.

Until Next Time-

  3. so cute and I love the use of the solids.
I love the slinky dog too, but my kids were the pully phone kind - was that in toy story too? what a lovely childhood treasure you have made.
