Another Red and White Quilt?

How many of us have started something new this
year that we hadn't planned on?

Raise your hands!

My hand is up too.

I decided that by signing up for Sentimental Stitches
Heartfelt block of the week, Gay's
delightful sampler patterns would encourage me to
dig into the pile of French General fabrics.

The hardest part of a sampler and using stash
 is gathering it all together,

and then making some semblance of order out of it.

Over the years I've collected quite a few
vintage picnic baskets.  They make
wonderful storage.

We've received two weeks of patterns so far
and I'm all caught up!
Hahaha
Each block will measure 8" when finished.
Very doable.

I've been wanting to make another red and white quilt.
I think this will be just right,
 very scrappy and fun.

So what have you accidentally started?

Thank you everyone who left a comment
last week to be entered in my
project bag giveaway.
I had originally planned on gifting 3 bags,
but I drew 6 names and those bags
are on there way to 6 stitchers.
Thanks again.
Stay healthy.

Until Next Time-
Kyle

  3. I know I have said it before, but you have the most fantastic vintage photos and such wonderful humor in your posts. I really enjoy it! Those delicious French General fabrics are just the thing to add a spark to any red and white quilt. Can't wait to watch the progress.

  4. This will be lovely, French General is a favorite with me too. I started the Little Blocks 365 from Sentimental Stitches on a whim. I'm very behind but that's ok because I'm going to use a different setting with fewer blocks. I also want to do the APQ quilt-along, it is in the current issue. I've never done a QAL before so I jump in with two.

  5. Kyle tu colcha rojo y blanco con las telas General Francés será maravillosa.
No comencé nada nuevo, debería concentrarme en terminar Ufos, siempre la tentación de hacer pequeños quilts existe.
    Cuídate

  6. Red and white with French general is going to be beautiful! I love the vintage picnic basket as well. I’ve started 2 new projects I hadn’t planned on but I’m not sure where either is heading...

  7. Life is full of serendipitous surprises and this year is no different. Your gathering of luscious French General fabrics has reminded me that there is a small stash of them in the closet that have been patiently waiting for just the right moment and pattern. Your new red and white project looks like a sure winner, who can resist a red and white quilt?!

  10. I recognize some of those fabrics hiding out in my own stash waiting for their moment! This sounds like a wonderful project and I look forward to seeing the finish (and the blocks should you choose to share as you go). I don't think a year has gone by since I started quilting (27!) without me starting something new that I hadn't planned for. Not this year yet, but I'm sure it will happen!

  11. Those vintage picnic baskets are a great storage option! Useful and fun. :)
I guess the three bed-sized quilts I have going are things I planned to start at the beginning of the year, so no accidental starts yet, but I can feel one coming on! LOL
Those French General fabrics will be gorgeous in a red/white quilt.

  14. Starting a new project is always fun, and a red and white one is hard to resist. Your blocks look great with the French General fabric. That picnic basket is a great way to keep everything organized.

  18. I did Ceciles curves quilt along which I didn't plan.
I also took a Tara Faughnan workshop and started that quilt so yes, I too have raised my hand.
Love your new project. I'm working with reds and creams too. Love the combination.

  20. So beautiful your fabrics for the red and white quilt.I love the fabrics of French General. I'm also going to start with a red and white quilt, had been on my list for years. Because a quilt shop has started here with nice blocks, every month 2, I am really going to make my red and white quilt. I'm looking forward to it even though it wasn't planned yet, but this is just so much fun quilting, spontaneously starting a new project. Good luck with your beautiful red/white quilt. Greetings. 21. I haven't begun any new quilting projects--I have way too many waiting to be finished. Unfortunately, I have been side tracked by punch needle and needle felting projects instead. I am seriously thinking of doing Barbara Brackman's next SAL, Ladies Aid NY Sampler starting in March. Maybe by then I will have one of my UFO's finished. The FG fabrics are going to make a lovely quilt--your blocks are beautiful!

  22. Great plan for using up some FG fabrics! I have been tempted by some "squirrels" already this year, but I'm sticking to my planned quilts for now. So many quilts, so little time!

  23. I always have my hand up for starting impromptu projects--it's so much fun to work that way! Your red and white quilt is going to be fantastic with all those French General fabrics to showcase. Love your idea of storing fabric in vintage picnic baskets!
